Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with US President Joe Biden. This was reported by China Central Television and Xinhua News Agency.

During these talks, Xi Jinping said that the US policy towards China has for some time caused serious difficulties in Sino-American relations, which does not correspond to the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the common interests of all countries of the world.

According to him, Sino-US cooperation will benefit both countries and the world, and their confrontation is a disaster. In the end, both sides agreed that their communication on Sino-US relations and major international issues is very important, and agreed to continue to maintain regular contact.

In addition, the heads of the People’s Republic of China and the United States discussed the problem of climate change, the prevention, and control of epidemics, economic recovery, as well as major international and regional issues.

The press service of the White House, in turn, said that the heads of state discussed issues in which their interests coincide and in which they diverge, but at the same time agreed to openly and directly deal with both sets of issues. “Both leaders discussed the responsibility of both countries to ensure that competition does not escalate into conflict,” the statement said.

In July, negotiations were held in China between representatives of the foreign ministries of the United States and China, however, according to Bloomberg experts, then they only emphasized the differences between the countries.

According to the deputy head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Xie Feng, relations between the United States and the PRC “have reached an impasse and are facing serious difficulties.” Foreign Ministry officials discussed “US actions that violate international law” and sanctions against Chinese officials and government agencies.

After negotiations in the State Department, they said that the United States accepts tough competition between the two countries, intends to further strengthen its own competitiveness, but “does not seek to conflict with China.”

Relations between the two countries have remained tense since the presidency of Donald Trump. Then Washington imposed several packages of trade sanctions against China, and also adopted restrictions on Huawei and a number of other technology companies in China. In addition, the US has repeatedly introduced sanctions against officials and government agencies of the PRC.

Last December, the British Center for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) predicted that China would overtake the United States to become the world’s largest economy five years earlier than previously thought – in 2028.
