MOSCOW, 25 Mar – At least one person injured, two cars set on fire as protesters clashed with police during a demonstration against the construction of a reservoir in the French Sainte-Solin, the TV channel reports. BFM.
For the construction of a reservoir with a size of 700 thousand square meters for the needs of agriculture in the town of Sainte-Solin, it is planned to combine 16 smaller reservoirs. Local farmers note that this measure will benefit large-scale agricultural production, while smaller farms will be left without water, as the record drought in the summer of 2022 showed. Protests against the construction of a reservoir in the town of Sainte-Solin began on Saturday at the call of more than 150 organizations and parties. Protesters camped at the gates of a construction site held last year.
“The photographer was wounded… At least two gendarmerie vehicles were set on fire,” the channel said. According to the gendarmerie, the protesters use Molotov cocktails.
According to local authorities, at least 6,000 people are taking part in the protests, with organizers talking about 25,000 participants.
