President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a law aimed at creating additional conditions for citizens’ employment that, in particular, tightens requirements for appointing and receiving unemployment benefits to exclude dependency attitudes, the Belarusian state leader’s press service reported on Friday.

It is noted that law strengthens requirements for appointing and receiving unemployment benefits to exclude dependency attitudes.
“It will be appointed to citizens who meet following conditions: they must register with the employment service within a month of being laid off and have at least 5 years of labor relations with social insurance contributions prior to registration as unemployed. The maximum period of being on the employment service’s record is reduced from 18 to 12 months, and the unemployment benefit payment period is halved from 6 to 3 months,” statement says.
Furthermore, according to the press service, a quota system for jobs for people with disabilities is being introduced. Quotas will be established in order and scope determined by the government for employers of all forms of ownership, except for public disability organizations, non-profit, and budgetary organizations.

“Law provides for expanding the categories of unemployed individuals who are entitled to additional employment guarantees. These include citizens of pre-retirement age (5 years before reaching retirement age), those who have completed treatment and labor rehabilitation centers, and individuals suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, and who have undergone medical rehabilitation,” statement reads.
According to law, citizens have more opportunities to receive assistance from the employment service in finding a job, and employers can now find suitable candidates more easily.
Unemployed individuals can now register electronically, and not only by their place of residence but also by their place of stay. Employers are given the right to post information about current and future job vacancies on the national job bank, the press service informed.
