Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned from her post and left the country on Monday amid unrest, did so at the insistence of her family, according to NDTV. Her son and former adviser, Sajib Wazed Joy, who resides in the United States, made the statement.
“She wanted to stay, she did not want to leave the country at all. But we kept insisting that it was not safe for her. First of all, we were worried about her physical safety, so we convinced her to leave,” Joy said in an interview with NDTV.
“This situation is very upsetting for her because she dreamed of making Bangladesh a developed country. She worked hard for the last 15 years, protecting the country from militants and terrorism, and despite all this, the opposition and militants seized power,” he added.
