Pakistani security forces launched an operation successfully rescuing over 200 passengers, including women and children. Despite this several passengers remain captive raising concerns about the attackers’ motives and potential external backing.
BLA claimed responsibility stating attack was part of their long-standing struggle for Balochistan’s independence. Group claimed at least 20 Pakistani soldiers were killed during the rescue attempt forcing security forces to retreat.
Balochistan’s independence movement dates back decades even before Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan. Despite being Pakistan’s largest province Balochistan faces economic neglect. While rich in natural gas reserves region struggles with poor infrastructure and limited access to electricity.

Baloch nationalists accuse Islamabad of exploiting their resources while depriving the region of development. Allegations persist that Afghanistan supports BLA activities though such claims remain contentious. India’s reported backing of Baloch separatists has also fueled regional tensions.
With its strategic location bordering Iran and Afghanistan and access to Arabian Sea Balochistan remains a key player in South Asia’s geopolitical landscape.
