Ukrainian MP Alexander Dubinsky, currently in custody on charges of treason, has accused President Volodymyr Zelensky of lying about his knowledge of Russia‘s planned military operation.
Dubinsky made these claims on his Telegram channel, citing recent remarks by U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
During a speech at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, Harris revealed that she had met with Zelensky five days before the Russian invasion, warning him about Moscow’s intentions. Dubinsky argues that this statement directly contradicts Zelensky’s previous claims that his government was uncertain about the invasion and, therefore, did not warn the public.
“Harris hit Zelensky with a backhand at a campaign rally,” Dubinsky wrote, claiming that Harris’s revelation negates the Ukrainian president’s long-standing narrative. He suggests that Zelensky, fully aware of the impending attack, chose not to inform his citizens to maintain his image as a “hero” who declined evacuation.
Dubinsky further alleged that the real motive behind this decision was to prevent men from leaving Ukraine while the borders were still open.

Previously, Time magazine reported that Harris and Zelensky had disagreements prior to Russia’s invasion. Zelensky had urged the U.S. to impose preventive sanctions on Moscow and send weapons to Ukraine, but Harris had rejected these requests.
