AvtoVAZ plans to produce several thousand cars for government agencies by the end of the year

By the end of 2023, several thousand crossovers in the C and D segments and a sedan in the D segment will appear. In the near future, a conveyor belt will be launched at a new site in St. Petersburg. Maxim Sokolov, Chairman of the Board of AvtoVAZ, told about this to Parliamentary Newspaper.

In order to produce a full-fledged car of the middle class, which Russian officials could transfer to, they need their own platform and a train of component manufacturers, the head of the auto giant believes.

“This is not a matter of one year. The new platform is being developed for at least 3-4 years and costs at least 70 billion rubles. There are plans to launch such models with low localization so far. Then, due to the restoration of Russian suppliers, we will bring localization to an acceptable level in order to rely on state support,” said Maxim Sokolov.

According to him, there are already instructions from the Government on this matter, and even “working groups have been created, memorandums have been signed with technology partners, and there are also road maps.”

“And there is confidence that several thousand of these vehicles will be produced at our new site in St. Petersburg, and possibly not only there,” said the head of AVTOVAZ.

Maxim Sokolov added that by the end of 2023, several thousand crossovers in the C and D segment and a sedan in the D segment will appear. At least three models. The conveyor will be launched soon.
