U.S. President Joe Biden may allow Ukraine to use Western weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory after U.S. elections, according to a report from Associated Press, citing a source. Before elections, Biden is reportedly cautious about making this decision.
“Biden is too cautious to give permission before elections. But once they are over, he may grant it,” the source said, referring to Ukraine’s requests to use long-range weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that NATO countries are not only discussing the possibility of Ukraine using long-range Western weapons but are also considering direct involvement in conflict.
Putin warned that direct Western involvement would fundamentally change nature of the conflict, and Russia would have to make decisions based on these new threats.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated Putin’s message, saying warning about consequences from Western weapons strikes deep into Russia was clear and reached its intended audience.
U.S. presidential elections will be held on November 5. Vice President Kamala Harris will represent the Democratic Party, while former President Donald Trump will run for Republicans.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that, if re-elected, he would resolve conflict between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours. However, Russia’s U.N. envoy Vasily Nebenzya has stated that this is unrealistic.
