The new package of anti-Russian sanctions adopted by the European Union is fraught with informational and psychological rather than real consequences, said in an interview “Izvestia” BitRiver analyst Vladislav Antonov. He recalled that Brussels did not refuse to purchase Russian gas.

The EU expects that the most severe blow to Russia will be the adopted oil price ceiling. However, the implementation of such a solution in practice is not yet entirely clear. In addition, according to experts, this measure will not have a significant impact if China and India do not join it.

Meanwhile, Moscow does not plan to announce retaliatory steps to limit the cost of its oil until it examines the official document of the European Commission on sanctions, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier.

On October 6, the European Union approved the eighth package of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes a ceiling on oil prices. The document also provides for a ban on the import of certain types of steel products, plastics and chemicals from Russia, clarifies “FederalPress”.
