An employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was injured after opening an envelope with a bomb

An explosion occurred near the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid, as a result of which an employee of the diplomatic mission was injured. According to the agency EFE, he opened the envelope, which contained a small explosive device. The police and sappers are currently on the scene.

According to the publication El Pais, the letter was sent to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Spain Sergiy Pogoreltsev. It was printed by an administrative officer of the embassy.

Against the backdrop of the incident, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba instructed to strengthen the security of all foreign Ukrainian diplomatic missions.

Agency Reuters clarifies that the embassy employee received “light injuries”. He, according to the agency, independently got to the hospital.

The area around the embassy building is cordoned off. In addition to police and forensics, TEDAX’s bomb disposal unit is also on site, according to EFE.
