An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hit northern Argentina

Tremors were felt in the province of Jujuy. About it informs RIA Novosti with reference to the data of the national seismological service and the words of local residents.

“The aftershocks occurred at 13.00 (19.09 Moscow time) with a magnitude of 6.4 at a depth of 227 kilometers, 163 kilometers northwest of San Salvador,” the service said.

There is no exact information about possible damage and casualties yet. A San Salvador resident said the quake was barely felt. And 25 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Jujuy, according to an eyewitness from the city of El Carmen, there were no tremors at all.

Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 was registered in Afghanistan, 48 kilometers southwest of the city of Ishkashim with a population of over 12,000 people.
