Amazon employees may go on strike

Amazon workers around the world, including the US, Germany and France, are expected to go on strike on Black Friday to demand higher wages. The call for an international strike came as part of the Make Amazon Pay project, which calls for strikes in more than 30 countries.

According to Prime, the German trade union Verdi has specified that work stoppages are planned at 10 fulfillment centers in Germany. He demanded that the company recognize collective bargaining agreements for the retail and mail-order sectors and called for the signing of a collective agreement on a stable and supportive working environment.

“This is the first international strike by Amazon employees,” emphasizes Monica Di Silvestre, an Amazon worker representative at the Verdi union. “This is very important because a large global corporation like Amazon cannot be opposed only at the local, regional or national level.”

In turn, a representative of Amazon in Germany said that as an employer, the company offers “excellent pay, benefits and development opportunities – all in an attractive and safe working environment.” At the same time, he recalled the increase in wages for employees of the logistics departments of Amazon in Germany since September: the starting salary is now from 13 euros per hour, including bonuses.
