Alexandrova beat the US Open finalist and advanced to the second round of the Cincinnati Masters


Russian tennis player Ekaterina Aleksandrova defeated Leyla Fernandez of Canada in the first round match of the Cincinnati Masters. The game ended with the score 6:4, 7:5. In the second round, the Russian woman will play with the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka (Japan) and Zhang Shuai (China).

27-year-old Alexandrova is in 27th place in the WTA rankings. She has two association titles to her credit. 19-year-old Fernandez is ranked 14th in the world rankings, she has two victories in WTA tournaments. In 2021, she reached the final of the US Open – she lost to 18-year-old Emma Radukan from the UK.

The Cincinnati Masters is a tournament in the prestigious WTA 1000 category. It is held in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA) on a hard surface. The prize pool is $2.5 million. The current champion is Ashleigh Barty from Australia, who retired in March.
