BRUSSELS, 15 Feb – European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson notified Ukraine that the EU is not interested in extending the agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe, which expires at the end of 2024.
“We have learned to live without Russian gas, there will be no turning back. The EU, as I told the Ukrainian energy minister, is not interested in extending the agreement, which ends this year,” Simson said, speaking to members of the European Parliament on Thursday.
Earlier, the media reported, citing sources in the Ukrainian government, that Ukraine is not going to renew the agreement on the transit of Russian gas to Europe, which expires at the end of 2024; transit will be possible after this period only if the recipient leases the capacity of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
