Russia will start phasing out single-use plastic products and packaging from 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said.
Plastic products should be replaced with more environmentally friendly ones. In addition, packaging that cannot be recycled must be discarded.
“There is a substitution option, there is such a technology, there is such a type of product or packaging – we will immediately introduce appropriate replacement decisions for such a group,” Abramchenko said in an interview with TASS.
The relevant amendments to the legislation began to be developed in the spring of 2021. The restriction may affect plastic utensils, cotton buds and other products.
A ban on the sale of plastic utensils may be introduced in Baikal ecozones. This measure will help reduce the amount of garbage in the lake area.
