A tourist from Austria, who died from shark bites in Hurghada, became the first victim of predatory fish in the resorts of Egypt in the last 12 years. The investigation into the incident was taken over by the local authorities.

Shark activity off the coast of Hurghada has not been observed in the past few years. The last similar incident occurred in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2010, when five different attacks killed one person and injured four.

The Austrian tourist did not die immediately. According to media reports, the shark bit off her arm and leg, after which the woman probably died from blood loss.
