A tanker broke down in the Suez Canal on the way from Russia to China – Kommersant

The oil tanker Seavigour suffered a breakdown while passing through the Suez Canal as part of a convoy from Russia to China. The canal administration sent three tugboats to the scene. This was reported by the press service of the Suez Canal.

The breakdown occurred at the 12th kilometer of the canal. “Three rescue tugs were sent immediately … Work is currently underway to connect tugs to the vessel in preparation for its towing,” the press service said (quoted from “RIA News”). The head of the administration of the channel, Osama Rabia, in a conversation with the Al-Youm Al-Sabea portal, explained that the tanker’s engine had broken down.

It is expected that regular service will be resumed when the broken tanker is towed to the 17th kilometer of the canal. The press service noted that the navigation traffic from the south direction will be able to be restored, provided that the vessels wait in the Great Lakes region for the end of the tanker towing.
