On the night of June 14-15, a rare atmospheric phenomenon appeared in the sky over Yekaterinburg – bright noctilucent clouds. They look like water waves or ripples.

They are illuminated by the sun due to the high location, when it has already disappeared over the horizon. Thanks to this, silvery clouds glow in a dark sky. This year, this phenomenon appeared over Yekaterinburg for the first time.

Noctilucent clouds (also known as night glowing clouds) are a relatively rare atmospheric phenomenon. These are extremely rarefied clouds that appear at an altitude of 76-85 km above the Earth’s surface. They are visible only in deep twilight, immediately after sunset or before sunrise.

Usually observed during the summer months at latitudes between 43 degrees and 65 degrees (North and South latitudes). Scientists even managed to prove that similar phenomena can occur on other planets, in particular, on Mars.
