    MOSCOW, 4 Dec – A monument to the deceased head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Yevgeny Zinichev, was opened in Kalmykia; members of his family and the leadership of the emergency department were present at the requiem rally, his press service reported.
    General of the Army Yevgeny Zinichev died on September 8 during an exercise in Norilsk, saving film director Alexander Melnik. Zinichev was 55 years old, he took the post of minister in 2018. Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Zinichev the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
    “In Elista, a grand opening of a monument-bust to the tragically deceased Minister of Emergencies of Russia Yevgeny Zinichev took place,” the message says.
    The meeting was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation headed by Deputy Minister Andrei Gurovich, the head of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov, the heads of the federal authorities of the region, the personnel of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Emergencies and members of the family of the deceased.
    “The monument, perpetuating the memory of the Hero of Russia, was installed in front of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the Republic of Kalmykia in the Park of Rescuers. The sculptural composition over four meters high, consisting of a pedestal, a podium and a bust, weighs more than four tons,” the document says.
    The author of the monument was the People’s Artist of Russia, the famous sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov. He said that the work on the pedestal lasted three months. “We completed the sketch, made corrections from relatives and made the portrait of Yevgeny Nikolaevich in bronze,” said the sculptor.
    The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations added that the memory of Zinichev was honored with a minute of silence by laying flowers at the monument.
    “All his life, Evgeny Nikolayevich devoted himself to serving the Motherland, giving all of himself in improving our ministry. He was a real professional. By his personal example he showed what dedication one should take to work, while remaining an attentive, responsible, caring person.
