A meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping began in San Francisco. Negotiations between the leaders of the two countries are taking place on the sidelines of the APEC summit.
“Nothing can replace face-to-face communication. I have always considered our contacts to be direct and sincere and have always valued them,” Mr. Biden noted at the beginning of the meeting with his Chinese counterpart (quoted from CNN).
The President of the People’s Republic of China responded by saying that not everything is smooth in Sino-American relations, and the rivalry between China and the United States will not allow resolving bilateral and global problems.
According to Politico, during the meeting Mr. Biden plans to have a “tough conversation” with Xi Jinping and discuss with him the military conflict in Ukraine, Israel’s war with the Palestinian Hamas movement, as well as “a wide range of issues on the international agenda and bilateral relations.” .
