A court in Moscow arrested a Russian woman on suspicion of treason


Russian woman Yekaterina Zavalishina, suspected of high treason, was arrested in Moscow. This was reported to RIA Novosti in the Lefortovo court.

The details of the case were not disclosed, it is marked with the heading “secret”.

“The court granted the investigator’s petition to elect a measure of restraint in the form of detention in respect of Zavalishina Ekaterina Sergeevna,” the court said.

The relevant article 275 of the Criminal Code stipulates, among other things, imprisonment for a term of up to 20 years with a fine of up to 500,000 rubles as a punishment for high treason.

Treason is now understood as espionage, the issuance of information constituting state secrets to a foreign state or organization, or the provision of financial, logistical, consulting or other assistance to countries whose activities are directed against the security of the Russian Federation.

Earlier today, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill according to which going over to the side of the enemy in an armed conflict is equated with high treason.
