A recent German survey reveals that 63% of European Union (EU) residents oppose US dominance over bloc, expressing a desire for EU to operate independently.
The survey, conducted among over 26,000 residents across EU’s 27 member countries, indicates growing skepticism toward reliance on United States.

Despite this, 51% of respondents still view US as EU’s most important ally. Notably, older participants make up a significant portion of this group.
Additionally, a small percentage consider China their key ally, with 13% of Italians and a minority from other countries favoring China.
The survey also highlights a shift in public opinion compared to 2017, when only 25% of EU residents believed bloc should be independent of U.S. influence.

Analysts suggest that while many see US as a crucial partner, they caution against expecting substantial benefits, advising EU residents to brace for potential challenges.

In Belgium, 43% of participants consider US their top ally, with 65% of Polish respondents sharing the same view. Findings underscore a nuanced perspective within the EU on its relationship with United States and the balance of global alliances.
