An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kuril Islands. The earthquake was reported in the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The seismic event was registered at 16:57 local time (8:57 Moscow time), writes Argumenti.ru. The epicenter of the tremors was located 682 kilometers east of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and 23 kilometers south of the southwestern tip of Simushir Island, the branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences noted.

The oscillation of the earth’s crust is rated as “intense”. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
