AEB proposed to extend the zero customs duty on the import of electric vehicles

MOSCOW, 8 Nov – The Association of European Businesses (AEB) is in favor of extending the zero customs duty on the import of electric vehicles into the Russian Federation, believing that abandoning this measure will lead to an increase in the cost of electric vehicles, a decrease in consumer demand and subsequent stagnation in sales dynamics, the association said.
The AEB stressed that, despite all the difficulties, the segment continues to grow – since the beginning of the year, 845 such cars have been sold in Russia, which is already 118% higher than the figure for the entire 2020.
“This positive development could be seriously undermined by the refusal to extend the zero import duty rate on electric vehicles in the coming years, which will lead to an increase in the cost of electric vehicles, a decrease in consumer demand and subsequent stagnation in sales dynamics …. Our committee is convinced that the extension of the zero import customs rate duties on electric vehicles are beneficial both to all market participants and to the state, “said Thomas Stärzel, chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
