The Akal Takht in Punjab has alleged that missionaries are converting Sikhs to Christianity. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has alleged that Christian missionaries are forcibly converting Sikh families in the border villages. The Jathedar has further alleged that many members of the Sikh community are being lured with money.
He alleged that the Christian missionaries are running many big programs for forced conversion of Sikhs belonging to Sikh families and schedule caste. This program is being run in the border areas of Punjab. Missionaries are using money and all other means to pressurize Sikh families to become Christians.
The Jathedar of Akal Takht alleged that forcibly converting innocent Sikhs to Christianity was a direct attack on the internal affairs of the Sikh community and would not be tolerated. He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has also received several complaints in this matter. The SGPC has taken this matter very seriously.
Sikh pracharaks have now been given the task to visit the villages situated near the border of Punjab and they have also been instructed to distribute religious books. This includes historical books and other freebies.
Apart from this, help is also being taken from all the Gurudwaras of the village situated near the border. Here in Amritsar, Bishop Pradeep Kumar has given his response in this matter. He has vehemently denied all these allegations. He said, “These are absolutely baseless and false allegations. Christians never believe in forced conversions. It is against our principles. You can criticize us, but we challenge them to come out with facts and show even one instance of forced conversion.
He said that if anything like this is found, it can be investigated by any independent agency or NGO. Everyone has the right to choose the religion of his choice. Many Sikhs and non-Sikhs become Christians by choice. But we never force them to adopt Christianity.
