For the Gujarat elections next year, the ruling BJP has decided to stick to its old and tried-and-tested ‘no repeat’ formula. Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil has also indicated that the party is preparing to field around 100 new candidates in the assembly elections to be held next year.
The BJP currently has 112 seats in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly. Addressing BJP workers in Himmatnagar in north Gujarat on Monday, Patil hinted that at least 30 sitting MLAs are going to retire next year and clear the way for new faces.
Patil said, ‘Look, we have to find new faces in the 70 seats where BJP is not present at present. Apart from this, some sitting MLAs will also retire. That is, in total you will see about 100 new faces in the elections to be held in the year 2022.
Patil’s statement comes at a time when the BJP top leadership replaced the entire cabinet, including the Gujarat CM, a few weeks ago. The party also made this change on the basis of ‘no repeat’ formula.
The BJP surprised everyone, taking the resignation of Vijay Rupani, appointed first-time MLA Bhupendra Patel as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and also changed the entire cabinet. Let us tell you that the assembly elections in Gujarat are to be held in December next year. In the 2017 elections, the BJP had saved power by winning 99 seats. However, the BJP got 16 seats less than the last election. At the same time, Congress performed better than the last election and the party reached from 16 to 77 seats.
