Will the corona vaccine be given to children in the age group of two to 18 years in the country? Now the suspense has increased once again. In fact, it was reported on Tuesday morning that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin has received emergency use approval for children aged 2-18 years. This approval was given by the expert committee constituted on Kovid-19.

But by the evening, the Union Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar said that the evaluation of the Kovid-19 vaccine on children is still going on and its process is going on. He made it clear that the vaccine will be launched only after taking approval from DGCI and getting permission from experts. He said that the final decision is yet to be taken on this.

The Union Minister of State for Health said, ‘Work and evaluation is going on. Consultations are being held with the Committee of Experts. After that he will review it. The Union Minister clarified that DGCI has not yet approved it. You will be informed about it when the specialist gives permission to use it.

The Union Minister said, ‘The process of evaluation regarding the vaccination of children is going on and we do not interfere in this matter. We will proceed only after consultation with experts. Covaccine maker Bharat Biotech has sent the report of its clinical data trials on children in the age group of 2-18 years to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization. Experts in the subject have studied this data closely and have given positive feedback.

The Central Drugs Authority of India has recommended allowing Bharat Biotech’s Covaccine vaccine in case of emergency to children and adolescents aged two to 18 years. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has completed Phase 2 of the trial of Covaccine, an anti-Covid-19 vaccine, for use in children and adolescents aged two to 18 years. The company had submitted the data to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) earlier this month for its verification and emergency use approval (EUS).

Final approval yet

The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19 reviewed the data and discussed the EUA’s application on Monday. A source said that the SEC in its recommendations said, “The committee, after detailed deliberations, considered the vaccine market to be limited to the age group of two years to 18 years in emergency situations, subject to certain conditions.” These recommendations have been sent to the Drug Controller General of India for final approval.
