After the Supreme Court’s rebuke, the government has agreed to conduct the NEET SS (Super Specialty) exam on the old pattern in the current academic year. The government on Wednesday told the apex court that this year the NEET SS exam will be conducted on the old pattern. But from next year (2022-23) it will be conducted on the new exam pattern. After getting assurance from the government, the court closed all the pending hearings. The central government has asked for two months time to conduct the examination from the old pattern.
Significantly, on August 27, the Supreme Court had strongly reprimanded the Central Government for the last minute changes in the pattern of NEET SS (Super Specialty) exam. The apex court had warned that the central government should not make young doctors football in the game of power. A bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice BV Nagarathna had said that if the court is not satisfied with the arguments made regarding the change in the examination format, then an order can be passed against it.
The top court was hearing a petition filed by 41 postgraduate doctors. The bench said it cannot leave the young doctors at the mercy of some insensitive bureaucrats. This case is important for the future of young doctors.
NEET SS is an eligibility cum ranking exam conducted for admission to various DM/ACH and DNB SS courses.
