Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is on a visit to Lucknow these days. In Punjab, the BJP has taken a jibe at Priyanka Gandhi over the political turmoil in Punjab after Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation from the post of state president. The Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP took a jibe at Priyanka’s name on Tuesday. Questioning the timing of Priyanka’s Lucknow tour, the BJP asked whether Punjab tickets should be booked for her.
UP BJP tweeted and said that Priyanka Vadra ji! You have come to UP at the wrong time. It was time to go to Punjab. Book a ticket for Punjab? BJP’s tweet comes hours after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief. Sidhu’s resignation has plunged the party into a new crisis, months ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Sidhu on Tuesday resigned from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress President in a setback to the party, which is already grappling with internal squabbles. In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he said that he would continue to serve the party. The cricketer-turned-politician did not say why he resigned. Hours later, another minister from the Charanjit Singh Channi-led Punjab government, Razia Sultana, resigned in solidarity with Sidhu.
This tweet of the BJP’s UP unit came at a time when the Congress General Secretary is in Lucknow on a visit to UP. Meanwhile, reacting to the tweet made by the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP, UP Congress spokesperson Ashok Singh told PTI that the tweet by the BJP reflects its mentality. Priyanka Gandhi is in charge of UP Congress and the language used by the BJP does not suit a democracy.
Significantly, Priyanka had reached Lucknow on Monday on her one week visit to Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka, who is active as the party’s state in-charge, is constantly monitoring the party’s preparations in connection with the upcoming assembly elections and special emphasis is being laid on the training of workers and office bearers for preparation up to the booth level. This is Priyanka’s second visit to Uttar Pradesh this month.
The Congress had contested the 2017 assembly elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party on 114 seats. In this, it got success in only seven seats. The Congress has already announced this time that it will not tie up with any major political party in the 2022 assembly elections.
