Young fast bowler Karthik Tyagi conceded just one run in the last over as Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by two runs in a thrilling match on Tuesday. In the last over, Punjab needed four runs to win. Tyagi scored just one run in the first three balls, while Nicholas Pooran was caught by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. Deepak Hooda played the next ball empty and then was caught by Samson. Royals needed three runs to win off the last ball, but Fabian Allen could not score any runs. In this way, chasing the target of 186 runs for the Royals, Punjab Kings could manage only 183 runs for four wickets despite a 120-run first wicket partnership between Mayank Agarwal and captain Lokesh Rahul.

Pooran and Aidan Markram put on 57 runs for the third wicket to take Punjab to the threshold of victory, but could not win. Royals scored 185 runs in 20 overs thanks to the flamboyant innings of young batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal (49 off 36 balls, two sixes, six fours) and Mahipal Lomror (43 off 17 balls, four sixes, two fours). In the fourth over, Rahul scored 19 runs off Sakariya with two sixes and a four. However, in the next over of Maurice, Rahul was given another life by Riyan Parag at mid-on. Jaiswal opened the account with two consecutive fours off Mohammed Shami while Lewis hit a six off IPL debutant pacer Ishan Porel. Lewis showed aggressive attitude by hitting four fours in the next over of Porel. Lewis also welcomed Deepak Hooda with two consecutive fours. Lokesh Rahul gave the ball to Arshdeep in the sixth over and he got it caught by Agarwal at Lewis extra cover. Royals scored 57 runs in one wicket in the power play.

Jaiswal hit a four and a six in the very first over of leg-spinner Adil Rashid but skipper Sanju Samson (04) was caught by wicketkeeper Rahul off Porel’s delivery. Jaiswal completed the team’s century in the 11th over with a four on Harpreet Brar. Livingstone hit a four and a six on Arshdeep but was caught by Fabian Allen off the same fast bowler. As soon as Lomror came, Rashid hit two consecutive sixes but Jaiswal was caught by Brar to Agarwal. He faced 36 balls and hit two sixes and six fours.

Shami sent Rahul Tewatia (02) and Chris Morris (05) to the pavilion in the next over while Arshdeep wrapped up the Royals’ innings by dismissing Chetan Sakaria (07) and Karthik Tyagi (01) in the last two balls of the innings.
