Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Babanrao Lonikar on Friday claimed that 12 MLAs of the ruling Shiv Sena are in touch with his party. He also predicted a change in the state. The Shiv Sena, which is running an alliance with the Congress and the NCP, has rubbished Lonikar’s claim, saying the opposition party is “daydreaming” to come to power in the state.
Lonikar made this claim during a rally in support of BJP’s candidate Subhash Sabane for the October 30 by-election to Deglur assembly seat in Nanded district. Union Minister and BJP leader Rao Saheb Danev and party leader Ashish Shelar are also in Deglur for the campaign of Sabane. Sabane has recently left Shiv Sena and joined BJP.
Sabane is a three-time MLA from Deglur and Mukheed assembly seats. Lonikar said, “If there is to be any change in Maharashtra… in the present government, the voters should make BJP candidate Subhash Sabane win.” There will be magic (change) in the state. 12 Shiv Sena MLAs are in touch with BJP.
On Lonikar’s claim, Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande said in Mumbai that there is no truth in her statement. “BJP is day dreaming to come to power in the state. They are still dreaming when their numbers have been reduced in the recent by-elections to 80 Zilla Parishad seats.” Significantly, BJP and Shiv Sena parted ways in November 2019. After this Shiv Sena formed the government with the support of Congress and NCP.
