Damien Tarel, 28, who slapped President Emmanuel Macron, was sentenced today to four months in prison with a courtroom custody. He was found guilty of assaulting a “government official” and received a total of 18 months in prison, including 14 suspended sentences.
For two years he will be obliged to work or study and accept constant psychological help. For three years he was deprived of civil rights, for five – the right to hold public office and own a weapon.
At the trial, Damien Tarel admitted his act impulsive and “regrettable.” He said he felt the need to express his outrage at the policies of the president, who, in his words, “was not elected by all the people of France.”
