The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for the tour of Sri Lanka. Shikhar Dhawan has been made the captain of the team on this tour.

After being given the responsibility of leading the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour, opener Shikhar Dhawan on Friday said it was an honor for him to be given this opportunity. The Indian team will play three ODIs and as many T20 matches on the Sri Lanka tour from July 13, which will be played in Colombo.

The selectors on Thursday picked a number of fresh faces for the Sri Lanka series as the main team will be in Britain for the World Test Championship final and five Tests against England.

Dhawan tweeted, “Honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the nation. Thank you all for your well wishes.’ The thirty-five-year-old has played 34 Tests, 145 ODIs and 65 T20 matches.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was appointed as the vice-captain. Five players were included in the Indian team for the first time for the series, which include K Gautam, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Rituraj Gaikwad and Chetan Sakaria.
