The Prime Minister of Georgia said that he does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia

TBILISI, February 20 – Georgia has no plans to impose sanctions against Russia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Tuesday during a visit to Brussels.
“As for sanctions (against the Russian Federation – ed.), we have a very clear position in this direction: we do not impose sanctions, and we have very strong arguments for this. At the same time, Georgia is not used to circumvent sanctions,” – Kobakhidze said at a briefing after a meeting of the Georgia-EU Association Council.
According to him, the Georgian authorities plan to continue to adhere to the policy of not imposing sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the head of government noted that “Georgia will continue to provide political support to Ukraine because of the friendship existing between the peoples.”
Kobakhidze added that Georgia supports Ukraine from a humanitarian point of view, but statements by Ukrainian officials about the desire to open a second front in Georgia against the Russian Federation are upsetting.
In February 2022, Irakli Garibashvili, who then held the post of prime minister, stated that Georgia would not join the multiple anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the West in response to the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Soon, Vladimir Zelensky decided to recall the Ukrainian ambassador from Tbilisi.
