A girl born with extra fingers in China has been operated upon at the age of four. This girl had 14 fingers in her hand and 13 fingers on her foot. After hours of operation, doctors removed the underdeveloped extra fingers.

A girl born four years ago today in Guangdong province of China is in a lot of discussion these days. Actually, from the time of birth, this girl has 14 fingers in her hand, while their number is 13 in the foot. This girl is growing up, but because of these fingers, she finds it very difficult to do daily chores. Seeing the growing problems of the daughter, the family took her to Guangzhou Helping Orthopedic Hospital.

Extra fingers were attached to the hands and toes
The parents of this 4-year-old girl named Ting Ting told that their daughter has polydactyly. In this, the patient has more than five fingers in the hand and foot. When the doctors took pictures of the hands and feet of this girl, they also saw bones in all the 14 fingers of the hand. A doctor reported that Ting Ting had two or more fingers fused together.

The name of this disease is ‘syndactyly’.
This is a type of deformity, which is called syndactyly in medical language. This girl also had seven toes on her left foot and six on her right. After seeing this and discussing the entire case study with other senior doctors, the hospital team decided to operate. After a long and complicated operation, the doctors have removed the extra fingers of her hand and foot.

Extra fingers that were abnormal and deformed
Dr. Wang Xiaoli of the Department of Plastic Surgery of Guangzhou Helping Orthopedic Hospital said that many of the patient’s fingers were looking short and deformed in the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint of both hands. These fingers were not even developed properly. He told that all these fingers were enlarged in an unusual way. These deformed fingers were enlarged next to the fifth finger of both the feet.

Couldn’t even give much anesthesia to the little girl
Dr. Wang said that several X-rays were done to learn the shape and position structure of Ting Ting’s many fingers. On the basis of which it was decided which finger to remove and which to leave. The girl was very young, so we could not even give her anaesthesia.
