BJP sources say that the decision to include Jitin Prasada in the BJP was approved after the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh visited Lucknow. The party needs to maintain its grip among the Brahmin community in UP and Jitin can help.
As soon as BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni tweeted that a well-known personality would join the party at 1 pm, the discussion in the political corridors from Delhi to UP intensified. A round of speculation started on social media and finally when Jitin Prasad reached the BJP office at 1 am, the picture became clear. There was speculation on social media about Jitin but the real picture was shocking to many.
Many names of Congress were being discussed in social media, which included the name of Sachin Pilot to Milind Deora. However, according to BJP sources, Jitin’s joining was kept confidential till the last minute so that no hindrance was created. At the same time, there was no scope for passionate efforts on the part of Congress leaders to persuade Jitin.
In fact, even before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, there was talk of Jitin joining the BJP, but it is said that then Congress General Secretary and in-charge of UP, Priyanka Gandhi had managed to persuade him.
Since Baluni comes from Uttarakhand, there are speculations that some hill state is going to join the saffron camp. Fed up with repeated phone calls, the Leader of Opposition Indira Hridayesh had switched off her phone for some time. A BJP leader said, “This time the Congress leaders swung into action and started finding out which of their leaders were present in Delhi at the moment.” Last year, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was included in Rahul’s quartet, also joined BJP.
On Wednesday, Jitin Prasada first reached the residence of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and from there reached the BJP office. Later he also met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. BJP sources say that the decision to include Jitin Prasada in the BJP was approved after the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh visited Lucknow.
Recently, BL Santosh took feedback on the functioning of the government from BJP MLAs and ministers in Lucknow. It also emerged in this discussion that the party needs to maintain its hold among the Brahmin community in UP and Jitin can help in this. He himself is a Brahmin face and comes from Shahjahanpur district of West UP.
