Two units of the B-21 Rider stealth bomber are ready at the California factory. The US Air Force is soon going to make an official announcement about their first flight. Such advanced stealth technology will be used in this aircraft that even the radar of Russia’s S-400 defense system will not be able to detect it.
Revealed in the meeting of the Armed Committee of the US Senate
This update on the B-21 program came in the hearing of the House Armed Services Committee a day earlier. This committee conducts review meetings related to the weapons of the US Army, Air Force and Navy. During this meeting Darlene Costello, Assistant Secretary for Air Force Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, revealed that the first two B-21s are now ready at Plant 42 in Palmdale, California. In the original plan, this aircraft was prepared to make its first flight in late 2021. It was then being speculated that the program would face delays due to the coronavirus pandemic and lack of funds. The US Air Force hasn’t revealed what exactly it will do with the two brand new B-21 bombers. Nevertheless, it is being speculated that soon their extensive ground testing will be started. Apart from this, training will also be given to pilots in simulation.
America is making 21 units of B-21 bombers for testing
As per the contract for the B-21, it is planned to make 21 aircraft in the first phase. In fact, the US Air Force wants to test the B-21 aircraft rapidly on every scale. For this more number of aircraft will be needed. He said that building the stealth bomber of the future is a complex endeavor and we want to ensure that no one is left behind from our side. A few months later, the first flight of the B-21 will also be conducted. The US Air Force will soon finalize the contract for the construction of the hangar and maintenance facilities at the aircraft’s operating base. It is not yet decided at which airbase it will be deployed. The project was expected to be delayed due to the Corona virus epidemic, but now the Air Force has said that all the preparations are being done according to the pre-determined schedule.
The new B-21 nuclear bomber will look like the B-2 Spirit
In an interview with Air Force Magazine, Randall G. Walden, Director of the Air Force’s Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO), said that the first rider, the B-21, would look like a bomber. By early 2022, Northrop Grumman Corporation will develop engine runs, taxi tests and other necessary ground facilities in Palmdella, California. A few months later, the first flight of the B-21 bomber would be conducted. Preparations are being made to test it at Edwards Air Force Base in California. After which the 420th Flight Test Squadron will take over the aircraft for extensive trials. He also told that we are preparing to test this aircraft till the last limit. It will have the world’s most advanced stealth feature, which cannot be caught by any radar in the world. Once all the test results are in, orders will be placed for mass production soon after.
B-21 bomber will be capable of firing nuclear bombs
The B-21 bomber will be capable of attacking with nuclear warheads in addition to conventional weapons. It will also use Lockheed Martin’s avionics, apertures and some of the sensors installed in the F-35. The B-21 bomber will be capable of carrying a payload of up to 13,607 kg. A large part of this will be from internal fuel. Whereas, the remaining part will have bombs and missiles. Let us tell you that this aircraft will be smaller in size and less heavy than America’s B-2 Spirit. However, due to its small size, radars will not be able to detect it easily.
How different is the B-21 Bomber from the B-2 Spirit
Visually, the B-2 Spirit and the B-21 bomber are almost identical. The biggest difference between these two is their size and modernity. The B-21 will be the world’s most advanced technology-equipped aircraft, while the B-2 is now obsolete. China has also copied America’s B-2 Spirit and made the H-20 stealth bomber. The width of the B-2’s wings is 172 feet while the width of the B-21’s wings will be less than 150 feet. The B-2 can take off with a load of up to 27215 kg at a time, while the B-21 will be able to lift only 13,607 kg. However, the B-21 will be so lethal that with the help of aerial refueling, it will be able to attack anywhere in the world without stopping.
